Harvest began this year with our whites (Chardonnay & Viognier) on 16 September and (Pinot Gris & Albariño) on 20 September. We expect to harvest our reds beginning with Pinot Noir the week of 28 September. Our remaining reds (Syrah, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Cab Franc, Charbono & Mourvèdre) should be completed prior to the end of October.
All of our harvesting is done mechanically using a Pellenc 690 mechanical harvester. Most of our harvesting is done at night when the temperature is cooler. This helps concentrate the aromas and flavors. It also keep sugars more stable and provides better control over the fermentation process.
